I didn’t originally title this post “dressing my post-baby body”, but after some thought, I realized that’s really what this one should be about. I got so many compliments on this outfit this past Saturday. Feeling good in your clothes and your skin is not always easy after the life changing experience of pregnancy and childbirth.

After having Hudson, I came home with a belly that still looked 6 months pregnant, and to a closet full of crop tops I could now use as scrunchies. Needless to say, I had to revamp my wardrobe. I continued to wear maternity clothes for the first month or so because it’s all that fit. I still can’t fit into most of my pre-baby clothes but I AM making progress and more importantly I’m learning how to give myself a break.

I have to say that I’ve learned a lot about dressing my body in the last year. Pregnancy will do that to you, and so will nursing but I’ll get into that another time. Adapting to my changing shape has definitely been a challenge but it’s also been a fun experience. (Minus the muffin-top) But, THAT is where these leggings come in. If I could shout it from the rooftops I would – you need these leggings! If you just had a baby, they should  magically show up at your front door, wrapped up in a pretty little package that says “you will need these”. Now don’t get me wrong, they are more expensive than any other leggings I own but they are definitely worth it. One word: Spanx. They are high-waisted, and suck you in from literally every angle. I have found that it’s hard to find a good pair of faux-leather leggings that don’t feel flimsy but these ones are nice and thick and you don’t have to keep pulling them up all day.

A tunic and leggings is a pairing that’s been on repeat in my wardrobe this fall and winter.  This tunic/dress looks exactly like the Free People version for a fraction of the price…what’s not to like about that? I’m sure there is a bit of a difference in the quality but not enough to bother me.

I’m pretty sure I could write an entire series of posts on the post-baby body and all of the challenges that come with it, ha!

xoxo

Jamie

Jamie, You look amazing! How do you like dealing with the company Shein? Aubrey has seen some things she liked and the prices are reasonable but was wondering if the company is based in the US? Does the sizing seem accurate? She loved the lipsticks by the way! Give Hudson a kiss from us..

I must own a fur vest!!!! This look is my exact thing after kids! Tights and tunics are the way to go – comfy, easy to chase down kids, and still look put together!

Hey Carol! I have had really good luck with everything I’ve ordered from there. Just to be safe, I like to make sure that the item I am ordering has a few reviews (they will talk about sizing in those), and even better if it has pictures of people actually wearing it. I think you can sort of tell which things are going to be better quality than others. Sizing has been right on for me! 🙂

This looks amazing on you! Glad it makes you feel that way too! Yes, give yourself a break for sure. I haven’t had a child, but I do struggle with my body and have learned to take it a step at a time, especially with auto-immune issues. I’ve always wanted to try spanx leggings. And I’ve heard great things about Zella ones too.

Thanks so much Meghan! 🙂 I have struggled with my body for years too but I have found that only now am I able to really look at it differently. Oh and you must try spanx leggings! They are the greatest.

  7. You look amazing! I totally agree–pregnancy has changed the way I look at dressing myself and my wardrobe. I’m actually planning on going through my closet before my baby arrives in April so that I can be ready to start fresh. I know that leggings and tunics will be on heavy rotation for me, and I’m ready for it!

Omg leggings and tunics will be your new best friend! Oh and button down shirt dresses are great for post-baby too, especially if you plan to breast feed! Such an exciting time – congrats 🙂

I weirdly find women more attractive after they’ve had a baby. I think something happens to their entire appearance…or maybe it’s that extra twinkle in their eye. I always use Gwyneth Paltrow as my example. She was “eh” to me before baby, and then I love her body now. Okay, that is weird, haha.

Anyway. You’ve always been stunning. And I would kill to have your post-baby body! I think that we are so overwhelmed with a new baby and zero sleep that we forget to celebrate our own selves. You look amazing! And you’re making me want to sew up some pleather leggings. Like yesterday.
