Sharing my 2021 Christmas living room with you today! This is the first room that you see when you walk into our home and it’s what really made me fall in love with this house when we first toured it.
This year I was wanting to go with a sort of cozy, rustic ski lodge vibe. Bringing in the darker wood tones and adding lots of cozy textures helped warm up the space. It’s a large room with lots of huge windows and doors so it can seem a bit cold.
There were a few things that inspired my room this year. One of them was this hoho pillow that I had seen online. I loved the mix of colors and texture. Another was yarn garland.
I knew I wanted to use braided yarn garland this year but I was having the hardest time finding it for an affordable price. I also knew that it couldn’t be that hard to make myself. Turns out I was right! I watched a quick youtube tutorial on how to do a crochet chain stitch, grabbed the chunkiest white yarn I could find at the craft store (I used this kind from Hobby Lobby) and got to work! It was super quick and easy and actually quite therapeutic to do while sitting on the couch watching tv.
To bring in even more depth and warmth to the room, I used deep green velvet. Between the bows on the tree, the ribbon on the wreath and the throw pillow on my couch – it was just the right touch of moody.
For my mantle – it took a lot of trial and error to get this one right. I originally bought that pair of wood shutters with the round top to use as the centerpiece of this mantle but once I got it up there it seemed way too small. I brought in a larger mirror to help use up the space and turned it into a layered look using lots of old books and iron candle sticks.
I hope you enjoyed getting a look at our Christmas living room this year! To see more home decor posts you can always hit the “decor” tab up at the top menu of this site and it will filter all of those posts for you!
