Creating the Perfect Fall Picnic

Now that September is in full swing – I’ve been in the mood to do all the festive fall things. We had a gorgeous day this past Friday and I decided to put together a cozy picnic up at our favorite place!

I’ve always been a huge fan of anytime I can sit on a blanket outside with gorgeous scenery. It’s truly one of my favorite activities… add in some wine and cheese and we’re basically in heaven.

Here are a few tips to create your own festive fall picnic!

Cozy Textiles

First things first – you’re going to need something to sit on. I like the picnic blankets that have a waterproof underside but I also usually layer a few blankets! I’ll start with the waterproof one and then add one or two more around it to make a bigger area for us all to spread out.

If you’re feeling really boujee (when am I not is the real question) I would suggest adding in a few throw pillows for an extra cozy effect!

Flavors of Fall

Next you need to figure out what you’re eating. I think a cheese board is basically mandatory on a picnic but that’s just me lol! I like to get the pre-made fancy cheese flights from the grocery store that have three cheeses in them. Then I’ll add fancy bread, crackers, some fruit and meats. Finally – I finish with some seasonal flavors like apple butter and fig jam.

Sandwiches are the easiest to pack and take so I chose chicken salad and croissants but made them with Brie and apple butter to bring in some fall flavors – they were fantastic!

More seasonal flavors are brought in with dessert – pumpkin and apple hand pies from the Amish store down the street!

Music

Finally, it never hurts to add a little ambiance with your favorite music! If you have a portable speaker you can bring that’s great but I just used my iPhone to play some jazz music on Pandora! If you really want to take things up a notch – choose a spot with live music nearby! We do this often too and it’s so lovely.

I’m so glad I brought my camera this night because I got some beautiful sunset pics of the kids! Enjoy those 🙂
