I’m so excited to share this post with you guys today! It’s always one of my most asked about topics – hair extensions! I’ve had them (on and off) for about 5 years now and have tried so many different types (see my post about great lengths here). I’ve actual gone the last year without extensions so I was sooooo ready to have my long hair back, and try out a new type of extensions that my stylist was offering!
First – I go to Laurie Carr at Cirque De Cheveux Salon in Wheeling. She owns the salon and has been doing my hair ever since I moved back to Wheeling years ago. She is FANTASTIC. An actual hair magician. Also a great friend of mine and she is so skilled when it comes to extensions. This time around – she wanted me to try a new type (all about that in a bit) and I’m SO SO happy with them!
Hidden Beaded Row Extensions
Now to the specifics! These are called Beaded Row Extensions and they are from Dream Catchers. They are wefts of hair that reach all the way around your head and are attached in rows. There are beads that are anchors and then the wefts are sewn to the anchors. I’ve had beaded row extensions before, but this time Laurie used a new installation technique called “hidden bead” that makes them nearly undetectable.
You can see when she flips the weft up that there are no beads or anything visible! The amount of beads you will need varies depending on placement and the size of your head – but I’m telling you – they are way more comfortable than any other type of extension.
A benefit of that is that there is less points of contact and less pulling on (or damage) to your hair.
Another benefit of the beaded row extensions is that they look so much more natural than individually bonded pieces. Think of it as a curtain versus a shoe string.
Installation
These are much faster to get put in compared to other types of extensions. I was at the salon for less than an hour. After she finished sewing in my row, she took a few minutes to trim them and make sure my hair blended perfectly.
Maintenance
Now to the maintenance. You can go 6-8 weeks between push-ups with this type of extension. It all just depends on how fast your hair grows.
The hair itself will last about a year – depending on how much you use hot tools. It’s super important to use heat protectant to limit damage from those tools and to also use salon-quality products!
Are they right for you?
There are a lot of different types of hair extensions, which means there will be one method that works for everyone! That’s why it’s so important to go in for a consultation (they are free) and talk about the look you are going for and how much maintenance you are wanting.
This is such a good before and after below, to show you how much prettier my hair looks. Not only did the extensions add a few inches of length and lots of fullness, they also hold curl so much better and brightened up my hair a ton!
I’m so excited that Cirque is doing a giveaway for a $100 gift card to go towards extensions! Just head to instagram to find out how to enter!
